Dear Friends of Israel, of Justice, and of Academic
Freedom,
Your action is urgently needed. You can help overturn
yet another malicious boycott effort launched against
Israel.
Spain suddenly expelled Ariel University Center (AUC)
students from the U.S. co-sponsored 2010 Solar
Decathlon, a competition for building a self-sustaining
solar house, even though AUC’s team was one of 20
selected finalists and had already received funds from
Spain for their project. Spain claimed AUC’s location
in the West Bank violated EU policy. No such EU
policy exists, and many peace proposals place Ariel
inside Israel’s future borders with the Palestinians.
Spain simply capitulated to pressure from the
Palestinian BDS (boycott, sanctions, and divestment)
movement.
Spain’s actions violate all standards for international
cooperation to advance human knowledge. Singling
out Israel for special discrimination is anti-
Semitic.
If we work together, we can get the AUC team
reinstated, but we must work quickly. The students
need to be reinstated in time to build their solar
house.
Please take a few minutes to compel Spain to reverse
its discriminatory decision by doing three things:
- Sign the
petition.
- Fax or email protest letters to the relevant
authorities: Spanish government officials, U.S.
Department of Energy, and the U.S. State Department
and your Congressional representatives. We have
provided the addresses and sample letters you
can send to each group.
- Encourage others around the globe to sign the
petition and write letters. Familiarize yourself with the
issues so you can share this urgent message with
others. Our petition website includes all the
background information you will need.
The AUC students must be reinstated, or the U.S.
should withdraw its co-sponsorship of the
event.
Thank you for your timely help!
