Attacks Continue Despite Latest Cease-Fire

Arutz Sheva September 20, 2001

(Sept.19- 22:42) Despite the PA once again committing to another cease-fire, terrorist attacks throughout Yesha continue. On Wednesday night, a bomb was detonated against the security vehicle of the Shomron community of Oranit, located near the Green Line just five kilometers (three miles) from Petach Tikvah. Two persons were moderately wounded in the attack.

Earlier in the evening, a pipe bomb was hurled at an IDF position in Hevron. Shooting was also reported in Hevron on Wednesday evening. There were no injuries in either attack.

On Wednesday night, IDF officials confirmed that 25 grenades had been thrown at soldiers in southern Gaza near Rafiach. There were no injuries.

The Yesha Council has called upon Prime Minister Ariel Sharon not to agree to another “bogus cease-fire” with Yasser Arafat, adding that such a move would be unconscionable while terrorist attacks were ongoing. The council statement preceded the bomb attack in Oranit.

Mr. Sharon is scheduled to meet once again with Foreign Minister Shimon Peres who continues to pressure for approval for a meeting with Yasser Arafat. Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday night stated that although there has been a noticeable decline in attacks over the past 24 hours, it was too short a period to determine the PA’s commitment to the latest cease-fire.
