Thanks largely to the good offices of City Councilor Minna Fenton, Paris Square [outside the Prima Kings Hotel] was this afternoon renamed Freedom for Jonathan Pollard Square. Along side a large number of speakers as well as music and speeches on the audio system, the large crowd - some of whom have been waiting for Jonathan to come home to Israel since childhood - heard how Jonathan was being kept as a political prisoner in the USA. Dennis Ross even writes in his recent book on the ‘peace’ process in the Middle East, that Jonathan should have been freed ages ago - but was being kept as a ‘bargaining chip’ with Israel. With friends like this who needs enemies! The occasion for the renaming of the square was of course linked to the visit this week of President George Bush and we heard some excellent letters pleading for the release of Jonathan and his return home to his wife Esther in Jerusalem.

We also heard that the security services were up to their dirty tricks again - as in the time of the Rabin assassination and that all was being done to infiltrate the Land of Israel activists, cause provocations and once again demonize the Right. To this end Justice4Pollard have cancelled all their events during the time that Bush is here, so as not to put Jonathan at any further risk.

Many old faithfuls turned out today - in spite of the cold - but there were speakers etc I have not been able to name. Sorry!!!
