Sderot Home Suffers Heavy Damage as PA-Gaza Steps Up Attacks

by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz

(IsraelNN.com) Palestinian Authority terrorists in Gaza fired at least four rockets at Jewish towns in the Western Negev on Monday afternoon and evening. One rocket slammed into a house on Operation Moshe Street in Sderot, causing heavy damage. A second rocket landed in another street in the same city.

A third PA rocket exploded near the perimeter fence of a kibbutz in the western Negev. The location of the fourth Kassam rocket’s impact site has not yet been identified. Emergency medical services treated several people for shock as a result of the enemy attacks.

In addition to bombing Israeli civilian targets, enemy forces from the PA-Gaza opened fire at IDF soldiers on Monday evening. The soldiers were on patrol along the perimeter fence in northern Gaza when they came under attack. Earlier in the afternoon, Arab gunmen aimed mortar shells at IDF positions adjacent to Gaza, but the mortars fell in PA territory. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

Early on Monday morning, Israeli Air Force jets bombed two rocket launchers in northern Gaza. Soldiers reported a direct hit on both targets.

IDF officials recently announced that the number of Kassam rocket attacks has decreased in 2007, in part, thanks to effective air strikes; however, officials also noted that the number of PA mortar shell attacks increased over the same period.
