Two weeks ago before the holiday of Shavuot, with the help of one of my sisters in law, I finished packing the last of our boxes containing clothes, pictures, dishes, etc. As I stood for a moment in my old kitchen which looked like a storage room full of boxes I thought of our moving away from Kfar Darom. After months of observing Kfar Darom’s growth, Mordechai and I decided that it was time for us to move on and help strengthen a smaller community. We chose a hilltop community approximately one kilometer sound of the Yeshav Tapuach in Samaria. There are three other couples on the hilltop and two of them have babies Chana’s age. Here, too, we live in a portable home. We added to our home a wooden deck and pergula so Chana would have a nice place to play. We all sit outside and enjoy the beautiful land we live on.
Having concluded his studies in the Yeshiva, Mordechai will G-d willing be entering the army towards the end of the summer for a nine month period. Due to our moving we decided that it was best to sell our goats and afterwards renew the herd. Now our goats are blessing the good members of the southern most Gush Katif community, Morag, with their delicious milk and even a few births. As for us, we weren’t left totally goatless. Halfway down the hilltop there is a large herd of goats, and there are many more on hilltops around us. And as for me, my main source of exercise, which was running after the goats and returning them to their pen whenever they got lost, has been changed to having to walk up and down the hilltop whenever I need to get anywhere and can’t find a ride.
Truly though, life here is wonderful. We have great neighbors, a breathtaking view and nice home. Although we miss Kfar Darom, we are looking forward to the adventures that our new life here as pioneers will bring. For now, we still have a bit of unpacking and settling in to do which I guess would take a lot less time if we didn’t stop in awe and enjoy the view everytime we passed a window.
