WAQF Threats Banish Jews From Temple Mount

Thirteen Jews with police permits to ascend to the Temple Mount were forced
to leave the holy site after Moslem Waqf personnel threatened and harassed
them. The incident occurred this morning.

The 13 had immersed in a ritual bath and had verified the exact places
permitted to enter according to Jewish Law – although many rabbis forbid taking any
chances on this matter. Soon after their arrival, the representatives of the
Waqf (the Moslem body that administers the Temple Mount) began yelling and
threatening them. A police official tried to calm matters down, but he did not
succeed, and the Jews were forced to leave.

Over the past few days, the Waqf, with the help of the Palestinian Authority,
has been exerting pressure on various planes to prevent Jews from visiting
the Temple Mount. The government has only recently begun to allow small groups
of Jews to ascend to the site, after almost three years of worrying that the
Moslems would react violently to Jewish visitors.
