Samaria Resident Badly Hurt in Arab Ambush

by Gil Ronen

(Israelnationalnews.com) A Jewish man from Rechelim, in Samaria, suffered moderate to serious wounds when Arabs ambushed the car he was driving in, hurling a cinder block at him. The block struck his face, causing fractures to his face and skull.

The attack took place at about 2:00 AM Thursday morning near Shiloh, in the Binyamin area of Samaria. The man’s car veered into an open ditch as a result of his injury. Eyewitnesses were quick to call security forces, and a Magen David Adom emergency services ambulance team gave him initial treatment and took him to Hadassah Ein-Karem Hospital. Faced with clear signs that terrorists are preparing to abduct IDF soldiers, Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi has instructed IDF commanders to reinforce soldiers’ awareness of personal security protocol.

Soldiers in Judea and Samaria are believed to be under the greatest threat.

The Chief of Staff’s instructions were published based upon the interrogation of recently-captured terror squads, including the terrorists who carried out a shooting attack at Rimonim Junction in early September.

The terrorists admitted that they had tried to abduct soldiers or civilians, kill them and then negotiate for the return of their bodies. They had passed the planning stage in this regard and had made operative preparations for the abductions.

Soldiers are strictly forbidden from hitchhiking. Commanders have been instructed to provide special transport for soldiers serving in Judea and Samaria, to enable them to reach their bases without waiting for a “tremp” – as hitchhiking is called in Hebrew (the term dates back to British Mandate times, and is derived from British “tramp” – ed.).

Soldiers have received instructions to carry their personal weapons in front of their bodies, in order to make it more difficult to snatch the weapon, and the orders for firing the weapons have been refreshed. They have been instructed to react assertively to any attempt to attack a soldier and to intervene in any terror attack.
