Birthright Israel Brings 40,000 Young Jews Adults to Their Homeland in just Three Years

Arutz Sheva January 27, 2003

( birthright israel enters its fourth year of providing young Jewish adults between the ages of 18 and 26 a first time educational peer group trip to Israel by celebrating an impressive milestone. By the end of this winter, approximately 40,000 participants will have traveled to Israel from more than 25 countries on 10-day birthright israel programs since the initiative started.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, speaking to 4,000 participants in Jerusalem earlier this month, said: “When I look at you thousands of young people, I know that we can look forward with optimism and know that together, with you, we can fulfill all the dreams of the Jewish people.”

Furthermore, the latest research on the organization from the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University continues to support the sustained power of the birthright israel experience. “It is now universally recognized in the world Jewish community that birthright israel has created a major new foundation for Jewish identity and continuity,” said Marlene Post, Chair of birthright israel USA.

In an effort to strengthen birthright israel in the years ahead, CEO Dr. Shimshon Shoshani today announced the appointment of Simon Klarfeld to the interim leadership of the North American birthright israel office. Mr. Klarfeld’s goal is to help move the program and its success from the first five years of the organization to firming up the necessary commitments for its continuation. Klarfeld comes to birthright israel with more than 15 years of Jewish communal experience from a variety of institutions and settings.

Registration for upcoming birthright israel spring and summer trips will begin on February 27th. Interested participants are encouraged to apply online at .
